Juan Sancho

Con una técnica asombrosa, una expresión musical que impresionó inmediatamente a la crítica y un timbre de una calidez eminentemente latina, Juan Sancho se ha consolidado como uno de los tenores más solicitados de la escena operística internacional. 

El comienzo de su carrera

Nacido en Sevilla, comenzó su formación como pianista, pero pronto se apasionó por el canto, estudiando con Lambert Climent y Monsterrat Figueras en la Escuela Superior de Música de Cataluña, en Barcelona.

Pronto trabajó con directores como Michel Corboz, William Christie, Gustav Leonhardt, Fabio Biondi, Jordi Savall, Diego Fasolis, Marc Minkowski, Andrea Marcon, Richard Egarr, Christian Curnyn, Ivor Bolton, George Petrou, Leonardo García Alarcón, Riccardo Minasi, Hervé Niquet, Jan Tomasz Adamus, Václav Luks, y, por supuesto, el difunto Alan Curtis.

Actuaciones

La carrera internacional de Juan le ha llevado a los teatros y salas más importantes del mundo. 

 

Reconocido como uno de los mejores especialistas en Haendel de su generación gracias a su virtuosismo infalible, Juan Sancho ha interpretado Lurcanio (Ariodante) en la Ópera de Lausana, Grimoaldo (Rodelinda) en la English National Opera, Teatro Real Madrid y Théâtre des Champs-Élysées de París, y Oronte (Alcina) en los teatros Bolshoi y de Lausana, Bajazet (Tamerlano) en Madrid, Tempo (Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno) en Moscú, Sesto (Giulio Cesare) en Basilea y Madrid, el papel principal de Belsasar en Gotinga bajo la dirección de Václav Luks con Concerto Köln, Emilio (Partenope) en una producción de Ivor Bolton/Christopher Alden en el Teatro Real de Madrid. 

Los otros gigantes del barroco encuentran en Juan Sancho un intérprete no menos notable.

 

Ha interpretado Giustino (Vitaliano) de Vivaldi con George Petrou en el Festival de Ópera de Drottningholm, Idalma (Celindo) de Pasquini bajo la dirección de Alessandro De Marchi en el Festival de Innsbruck, y L’Incoronazione di Poppea de Monteverdi (Arnalta/Lucano) en el Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires bajo la batuta de Jean-Christophe Spinosi.

También ha interpretado la Pasión de San Mateo de Bach con Jordi Savall en el Auditori de Barcelona, la Chapelle Royale de Versailles y la Philharmonie de París.

Música y discografía

En música posterior, Juan Sancho explora con maestría el repertorio belcantista, especialmente Rossini: ha encarnado así Albazar (Il Turco in Italia) en el Festival de Aix-en-Provence con Marc Minkowski (retransmitido por ARTE) y en la Ópera de Dijon junto a Antonello Allemandi ; Lindoro (L’Italiana in Algeri) bajo la dirección de Jean-Christophe Spinosi ; Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) en el Staatstheater Darmstadt. Mencionemos también una Gala Rossini bajo la batuta de Sebastiano Rolli para el Megaron de Atenas.

Su extensa discografía incluye Artaserse de Leonardo Vinci (Erato CD y DVD), Virtù dei strali d’Amore de Cavalli con Fabio Biondi (Naxos), Trilogía de Monteverdi en el Teatro Real dirigida por William Christie y Les Arts Florissants (Dynamics y Virgin). Para el sello Decca, Juan ha grabado Catone in Utica de Leonardo Vinci (papel principal), Germanico in Germania de Porpora, Adriano in Siria de Pergolesi, Siroe re di Persia de Hasse, Arminio de Haendel y Alessandro.

Ha publicado dos CD dedicados a Haendel: el álbum en solitario Seven Deadly Sins (Enchiriadis) y el álbum Human Love, Love Divine con Nuria Rial (Deutsche Harmonia Mundi).

El sello I Gemelli acaba de publicar el último álbum de Juan Sancho, Love Songs, está dedicado al repertorio del Siglo de Oro español. Le acompaña el excelente guitarrista Miguel Rincón. 

Proyectos en curso

Entre los compromisos para la temporada 2022-23, Juan Sancho interpretará el papel de Nearco en Aquiles en Sciro, de Francesco Corselli en la nueva producción de Mariame Clement dirigida por Ivor Bolton en el Teatro Real en Madrid.

También interpretará el papel principal en Orphée et Eurydice de Gluck con Jan Tomasz Adamus y la Capella Cracoviensis en el Theater Biel Solothurn.

Terminará su temporada en Potsdam en junio bajo la dirección de Alessandro de Marchi para la premiere de Idalma de Pasquini (Celindo), dirigida por Alessandra Premoli.

The beginning of his career

The label I Gemelli has just released Juan Sancho’s latest album Love Songs, dedicated to the repertoire of the Spanish Golden Age. He is accompanied by the excellent guitarist Miguel Rincon.

Ongoing projects

Among the engagements for the 2022-23 season, Juan Sancho will perform the role of Nearco in Francesco Corselli’s Achilles in Sciro in the new production by Mariame Clement conducted by Ivor Bolton at the Teatro Real in Madrid. He will also take on the title role in Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice with Jan Tomasz Adamus and the Capella Cracoviensis at Theater Biel Solothurn.
